Seems like there may have been more to the Zune update than indicated. Long Zen over at istartedsomething found drivers that indicate some kind of phone hardware. Maybe a “Zune phone” which has been denied repeatedly, or what I hope is Zune integration for Windows Mobile. What I would like to see is it starting with 6.5.3 or whatever they will call it and receiving an update for my Tilt2. I guess we will have to wait until next month and MWC to find out. What are your hopes and desires for Windows Mobile?

The Zune Marketplace will be down for system maintenance starting tonight as the lovely email says that went out to all of us.  As a result you wont be able to access content for purchase or rental, and as Mary-Jo Foley (All About Microsoft) puts it: “That doesn’t mean it’s time to don the tin-foil hats…”

Finding speakers for your Zune device is no easy task,because  at the moment there simply aren’t that many options. However, there is some good news;  I just got a hold of the Altec Lansing inMotion IM414V2 portable speakers, and was pleasantly surprised. Altec is certainly no newcomer to Zune products, with the M604 , and iM414v1 previously released and it’s evident in the quality of the iM414v2. Read on to find out why.

Dan Frommer of Business Insider, recently wrote an article comparing the poor adoption of the Barnes & Noble Nook reader’s to the that of the Microsoft Zune media players release in 2006.  Stating:

We can’t remember a bloodier beating since Microsoft first unveiled its Zune in 2006.

He goes on to compare the nook and Zune just as we have seen before with many pundits that still believe the iPod and Zune are the same.

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards is going to take place on Sunday January 31, 2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. If you don’t go you will be able to get the following playlist for you Zune via the Marketplace:

• The Big 4 Nominees
• Pop Nominees
• Rock Nominees
• Rap Nominees
• R&B Nominees
• Country Nominees
• And Record of the Year which will take you back with the past winners.

Adding the Playlist:
Open the Zune software and go to the Marketplace.
Click Music, Playlists, and then on Beyonce’s photo.

Or just enter 52nd Grammy into the search box.
Select the playlist you want to add.
Click the Download button or download songs individually.  Either way you will want to have a Zune Pass or you will have to pay for each song with credits.

And if any of you are going to be attending don’t forget to pick me up at LAX the night before, limo not required!

You may have noticed that I have shut down iPhoneMVP and GotZune.  This isn’t because my interest in the devices has waned. This is mainly to streamline my online contributions. I was not able to spread my time evenly with all the spin offs. Much of what we cover on either of those sites was duplicated here at Mobilitysite anyhow.

Some might have noticed that my prized Zune, the special edition Orange Zune 30, has changed hands. If you didn’t don’t worry, one of our readers did. Grahm Skee of AnythingbutiPod is a more than adequate foster parent for this special needs Zune.

I have also been iPhone free for the last 2 weeks. I am not done with the iPhone, but these past 2 weeks have brought a barrage of other phones into my hands to test. For the last week strait, the HD2 has been my main phone too. It’s growing on me to be honest, but I still believe that I will be back to the iPhone 3GS when my time is up.

Now that I am nearing completion of the site redesign, I plan to get back into the 50 in 50 iPhone app review series I started at iPhoneMVP.

So, Zune and iPhone fans… I haven’t forgotten you.

Big day for Zune and Xbox fans…and anyone else out there still trying to decide if they should get a Zune HD and Xbox. This morning the Zune team launched Zune video to Xbox LIVE in 18 countries*. Zune video delivers a pretty amazing viewing experience with its ability to stream, instant-on HD video in 1080p and 5.1 channel surround sound. No waiting for downloads or buffering! The team also added a few more features such as Party mode, where you can watch a video with up to seven friends through voice chat and Avatars on your TV screen. There is a search function so you don’t have to scroll through tons of titles just to get to the one you are looking for, and for TV shows in the US…buy them once and you can watch them on your PC, Zune HD and on your Xbox!
